Hey! I am looking for people to join me in a health challenge! As a mom, we are all very busy! I get it, really I do! If you don’t know I am a special needs mother also which adds another layer of exhaustion. I just recently wrote a guest post at My Parent Village about being a special needs mom. As a special needs mom, I feel like many days get away from me running back and forth to therapy sessions for my daughter. I don’t find much time to take care of myself, but I know I need too. As moms, we put ourselves on the back burner and take care of everyone else but ourselves. I just had two surgeries this year on both wrists for carpal tunnel syndrome. I had been living in pain, numbness and agony for close to seven years because I put myself last. Seven years!! That’s crazy! During that time my sleep was always interrupted because of pain, numbness, and babies waking in the night. It’s been such a huge relief after the surgery and I feel like I have gotten some of my life back!
Time to Change:
With this change, I have realized I need to get serious about taking care of myself more. I thought it would be a great idea to make a health challenge to motivate myself and others. I have to do the health challenge in baby steps to make it work and stick with it. So I am going to start by making small changes that will overall help me to feel better and replenish my bucket. We all know it’s hard to fill others buckets if ours is empty. Some of my goals for this health challenge that I will be changing are:
- Stop drinking soda
- Cut back on caffeine & drink more water
- Go to bed earlier
- Start exercising regularly
- Watch my food portions
- Carve out 15 minutes of “me time”
Be the best we can be:
We all need to be the best we can be for being a mom. As a special needs mom, I need to become stronger physically and emotionally to be able to take care of my daughter as well as my other two kids. I am tired of feeling yucky inside, worn out, exhausted and aching in pain after all the lifting I do.
I know I can’t take care of my daughter if something happens to me. Having my surgery I was unable to lift her for a good two weeks for each surgery. That is a really hard thing to do when she is completely dependent on me moving her. As she gets bigger it’s only going to get harder on my body. This health challenge is perfect because I know if I am exercising and watching what I put into my body I will also feel better which will help with the emotions of feeling yucky, overwhelmed and exhausted all the time.
I need your help!
I need your help, though! Pretty please with sugar and a big cherry on top! We will do better when we have support from each other. Accountability is the key. I need you to join my health challenge for accountability. I promise to hold you accountable as well and offer support. So I am pretty sure you moms need to take this health challenge too, so please do this with me. I am doing it in baby steps, and so can you. I’ve got your back, I just need someone whose got my back also.
If you are anything like me I need to mentally prepare myself to get ready for this. I was thinking the health challenge would start on October 1st, but that’s a Saturday. Who wants to start on a Saturday? Mondays always work better for me. I also figure if I cut out my kryptonite first a.k.a soda I will be feeling better to give this challenge my all.
So this challenge will start on Monday, September 26th and the first step well be cutting out the soda. Then Saturday, October 1st I will cut back on coffee over the weekend so that will be easier, go to bed earlier on Sunday, October 3rd. Mornings are not my friend, so I need a week of getting in the habit of going to bed earlier, and getting up earlier. I will get in the habit of going to bed earlier that week so that the following week Monday, October 10th I can get up early to start exercising before the kids are up in the morning.
